Trail Patrol is the education and outreach section of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. Trail Patrol volunteers hike in the Maryland, Virginia, southern Pennsylvania, eastern West Virginia, and D.C. region offering assistance and information to hikers and backpackers. We help our fellow hikers understand how to enjoy the outdoors in a safe and responsible manner. We report trail conditions to the PATC volunteers who maintain the region’s trails.Throughout the year Trail Patrol also offers a number of outdoor skills classes for the public. These classes include backpacking, hike leadership, Leave No Trace outdoor ethics, CPR, and backcountry first aid.
