Host: How do I stay on a healthy eating plan on the road?

Wendy Reinhardt Kapsak: Traveling, working on the road can really get in the way sometimes of healthy eating and physical activity. Few strategies and plans in place and we can handle it. The first thing that I often find is if every time you are on a business trip and you tend to feel like you are on a vacation, definitely those healthy eating and physical activity might go out the window. Treat your business travel as you would your usual routine while you are at home, but now it is just your work travel routine. Couple of things to know, if you often travel out or fly into a similar airport and that food court has a lot of chain restaurants as part of it, go online, most of this chain restaurants have all the menu items, their calorie content posted online and you can check it out and think about what choices you will make before you even get to the airport, before you are ravenous at the food court in trying to pick. You might have an idea of some healthy options ahead of time. Keeping a few snacks in your bag, great idea, for when you might have plane delays or you just are feeling too hungry to even make it to the food court or you just don't have enough time between flights or meetings for that matter to stop.

In addition, don't forget about physical activity on the road. Most hotel rooms have a clock radio, turn on the radio, dance around to some music, do a few push-ups if you can, stretch, relax, breathe, rejuvenate yourself with healthy eating and a little physical activity even when you are on the road.
