How to Play "When the Saints Go Marching In" on the Recorder

Michelle William: Hi, I am Michelle Williams. We are at Foxes Music Company and I am teaching you how to play the recorder. We have already learned the notes B, A and G and we have learned how to play "Hot Cross Buns" and "Merrily we roll along". Now we are going to learn "When the saints go marching in" on the recorder. In order to do that we are going to need to know a few more notes. So fingering G, now just put all the fingers on the recorder. Right hand also, remember your pinky goes over the -- there are two holes down there and you need the pinky to cover both holes. If you put all the fingers down, this is middle C. So middle C is --Okay. Then the next note we need to learn is E. So E is just the first and the second finger in the right hand and everything in the left hand. That is E and then you add one more finger and that's going to be D. So everything but the pinky, all the fingers. That's D. Then, last but not least F. Now F is little more tricky to remember. It's the index finger in the right hand and your pinky and your ring finger. So the only thing you are not using is your middle finger.

Now this is not the proper way to do it, I am just demonstrating, that is the F fingering. Well I am not using it, I am just holding it over the key while I am really playing. So again once more C. G, we release the pinky and then E and then F. Now we are ready to start playing "When the saints go marching in" and it starts off with quarter notes. That is "When the saints go marching in". Now next I will show you how to play the C major scale on the recorder.
