Frankie Dell: I am Frankie Dell. I am a Professional Tennis Instructor. You are watching ground strokes. Next, I am going to show you the three stances to hit a forehand. There are three basic ways to stand or your stance when you hit a forehand. You have the Neutral Stance, you have an Open Stance and a Closed Stance.

First let's look at the Neutral Stance. The Neutral Stance would be when you turn and step out toward the net and make contact and follow through. Next, there is the Open Stance where you step with the other foot out to the side, make contact and hit and then there is the Closed Stance, where you step across and hit this way. I do not recommend the Closed stance. First of all, you are stepping out into the path of the ball which you don't want to do and you are closing your body off from being able to follow through fully. Only use that if you have to maybe you have to reach for a ball, that's the only time I would recommend using the Closed Stance.

For the most part, I would use the Open Stance or the Neutral Stance. If you have plenty of time to get to the ball then I think the Neutral Stance is the best way to go. If you don't have much time, the ball is coming quickly then I go with the Open Stance. Those are the three stances for hitting a forehand.
