Host: What is the normal reaction for a child to have to a school shooting?

Dr. Hayley Sherwood: Common reactions to traumatic events such as a school shooting include disbelief and shock, fear and anxiety about the future, disorientation, emotional numbing and apathy, irritability and anger, sadness and depression, difficulty making decision, headaches and stomach upsets and difficulty sleeping. Remember, that every child responds differently. Some have immediate reactions while others have delayed reactions, that appear days, weeks or even months after the event, while some never react at all. 1
