Dr. Hayley Sherwood: An adolescent may have a range of reactions to a school shooting, including having flashbacks to the event, avoiding reminders of the event, drug or alcohol use and abuse, being disruptive, disrespectful or destructive, complaining of physical symptoms, having nightmares or other sleep problems, isolating themselves, feeling guilty or becoming depressed or suicidal.
