where can I get the contraption you have on your hook? I am left handed and you make this seem so easy. I did this 20+ years ago and am trying to get the hang of it again.

Amy O'Neill Houck: Hello, I am Amy O'Neill Houck from AOH Designs. I am here at A Tangled Skein in Hyattsville, Maryland and I am showing you crochet beyond the basics. Today we are going to look at Crochet Ribbing. Ribbing can be done in your crochet in a couple of ways and the way that it's typically done is with single crochets worked through the back loop of the stitch. Here in this sweater, I have used crocheted ribbing here in the neckline and also in the main body of the sweater and on the cuffs and this is all done with single crochet in the back loop and it's worked horizontally. So in perpendicular to the actual yoke of the sweater and this sweater here is alternating single crochet in the back loop with double crochet in the back loop and it gets a slightly different texture so it is also a crocheted rib and this entire sweater is worked marginally from side to side. This sweater here is half double crochet in the back loop only and you can see that it produces this interesting chain in the stitches that are in the loops that I have worked, so I really like that texture. It's a set of a wider rib and it gives a brioche stitch kind of impression. I just like the way that looked with that chain and then you work at sideways you get these nice vertical lines going up and down your work. So we are going to look at how to make a single crochet rib and since we are doing single crochet, I am going to chain one and start pulling the hook into the back loop of the stitch. Now if you look at the top of your row, you will see this kind of line of Vs and you will see that there is one that's closest to you and the one that's angled downward is farthest away and that's the one that you are going to work into. You are going to split that V by pulling the hook in between and working your single crochet and it's that technique that creates this great ribbed texture. Single crochet rib is nice and stretchy, it holds its shape really well and it's great to put on cuffs or collars or hems. So that's single crocheted ribbing worked in the back loop. Next we are going to show to attach a single crochet rib as you crochet as you go.
