Amy O'Neill Houck: Hello, I am Amy O'Neill Houck from AOH Designs. I am here at A Tangled Skein, a yarn store in Hyattsville, Maryland and I am showing you crochet beyond the basics. Today we are looking at making crocheted ribbing with Post Stitches. Post Stitches are basically standard double crochet stitches where instead of working into a stitch, you work around the post which is the vertical part of the stitch that is below the normal top of the double crochet and I will show you how to do that but here is how it looks when it's done. It has the textured look of a ribbing. This differs a little bit from a single crochet or a double crochet rib that you would make sideways in the back loop of the stitch because it's not quite as stretchy or elastic. So it has more of the look of ribbing than the actual texture of ribbing. So to get started because we are working in double crochet, we are going to chain three and then the first stitch in this row is a back post stitch. You can see the front post stitches have the texture in the front and the back have the texture in the back. So I am going to yarn over and insert my hook from the back to the front around the post of the stitch and back out to the back and I am going to yarn over pull through and I am now going to fold the fabric down so I can see my double crochet and finish it the way I would a normal double crochet and then you will see that, that you don't see any texture on the front, but if you flip it over you will see that you have made that post stitch on the back. The next stitch is a front post stitch. So I am going to yarn over and go around the post of the stitch so I am going to go from front to back and then out back to the front again and that pushes the post of the stitch forward. Yarn over and pull through and yarn over and finish my double crochet and the fabric alternates front post and back post to create the fabrics to the next of the back post again and so I am going to bring the hook to the back, out to the front, around in front of the post, pushing it backwards, bring the hook through at the back to work, there are my loops and I am going to work them off like a double crochet, an extra front post again, hook goes from front to back and then around back to the front pushing that post forward, pull up a loop and finish the stitch. We will do one more back post and those are the trickiest, back to front, push the post backwards, pull up a loop and then work them off and then one more front postSo that's how you create Post Stitch Ribbing and next we are going to be looking at crocheting V Stitches.
