Crystal Norman: Hi my name is Crystal Norman, I am with Earth Treks Climbing Centers, here in Rockville, Maryland. I am going to be showing you how to rock climb, and right now Meridian and I are going to go over some drop knees and some ideal hand and foot placement. But first we are going to do some double checks for safety. Meridian is going to make sure that my carabiner is locked, and that our ATC and rope are properly loaded. I am going to double check Meridian's figure 8 knot, make sure its properly setup, and that she has a backup knot. We are also going to make sure that both of her harnesses are on properly. Meridian: On the leg. Crystal Norman: Legs on.

Meridian: Climbing. Crystal Norman: Climb on. Meridian is not going to be following a specific route as she climbs up for demonstration purposes, but she is going to be showing you some drop knees, and she is going to be carefully placing her hands and feet, so that you can see some ideal hand and foot placement. You will notice that as she drops her knees, she turns her hip into the wall, and that her knee bends downward, away from where she is reaching. She is also going to be careful to select where she is placing her hands and feet. You will notice that as she starts to place her hands or feet, she kinds of flows down a little bit, just before contact with the hold. In rock climbing, for the most part, you want to stay on your toes as you are climbing, because that's going to give you the most options as you press at the wall. Meridian: Off the legsCrystal Norman: Legs off. That was drop knees, an ideal hand and foot placement, and now we are going to go over dynamic movement when rock climbing.
