Host: Should I visit the shelter alone first to adopt a cat?

Bridget Speiser: Visiting the shelter alone for the first visit is probably a fine idea. Again you are probably on a scouting mission at this point. You have come to the decision that you want to add a cat to your family and that's wonderful. But you really now are trying to see in your community, what animals are available? What shelters work best with you? whether you think you were going to go with a rescue group, what have you.

So I would recommend making a few visits on your own to a couple of organizations in your area, introducing yourself, talking to them a little bit about your background and your family and what you feel, you maybe wanting to add to your family and letting them guide you and just beginning the process of introducing yourself to the community and to the cat.
