David Rotan: Hi, I am David Rotan, Video Production Manager with monkeysee.
com and I am showing you how to make the perfect user-generated video to upload to our site.
Well, we've talked about shooting a video and editing a video, now we're going to talk about the final step, how to export and then upload your video to the website. What I'm going to do to output my video, I've finished editing it, it's here in the Time Line on iMovie HD, I'm going to go up to the menu and hit Share.
Now all video editing programs might be a little different, yours at home might be different, but they're all the general same concept. So just find out the wording that your program uses, and read through the instructions or go to the Help menu, and figure out how to do this, but exporting process is generally very much the same in all editing programs.
Here we have a window, it says, Compress Movie For, I want to make sure that this is selected, the QuickTime, we can generally take all different manner of video formats, but since I am editing on a Mac, QuickTime is the standard, that means it will have the file extension .
mov. So that's fine, I'm just going to make sure that's selected from my video.
I'm coming down here and it's selected for full quality and it says your movie will be copied into a single movie file at full quality, estimated size, about 70.
3 megabytes, which is important to remember, Monkeysee, we ask two things when you're uploading a video, first, that it not be over 15 minutes in length, and next that it not be over a 100 megabytes.
So this file size is estimated to be about 70.
3 megabytes, we're going to be fine, but if you're out there shooting on High Definition perhaps, or you're shooting a long video, and it's over 15 minutes, you might really want to think about splitting it up into segments, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and going back in reediting it into smaller chunks. That way, you can just put them all up on our site and have more than just one video, so think about doing that.
Alright, I'm going to hit Share, now that we've got that selected, it's going to say, Save As, I'm going to name it PB&J UGC video, it asks me where I want to save it, I am going to select my desktop, and then I hit Save, and it shows that it is compressing the movie, it's going to take less than a minute, almost done. As soon as that's done, we'll find it here on the desktop.
So let's find our new exported file, there it is on the desktop. It's a MOV file, let's open it up and check it. There we go, that's great. Let's go to the website monkeysee.
com and figure out how to upload it.
Alright. Here's the main page. The first thing you're going to do is you're going to see at the top of the page, some tabs, and it says, upload a video, click on that tab, and if you're not already a member, it's going to ask you to join. You need to just create a Monkeysee account, don't worry it's completely free, as is all of our site. Right here you'll see, you'll just fill in this information, passwords, and verification, and you can decide whether or not you want to sign up for free email updates, and you need to check that you agree to the terms and conditions, if you're going to upload videos to our site.
I'm already a member so I'm going to log in right here. Once you're logged in, you're ready to upload a video, we come to this screen. Here we'll have Expert's First Name, Expert's Last Name, Title, you'll just want to fill in this whole page, as detailed as you can, more detailed the better, because it really let us know what your how-to video is about.
It has description here, tags are very important for people surfing the web to find your video, very important to find some keywords about the subject. Finally, Video Category, mine obviously would be Food and Drink, so I would select that, and then a sub-category. Let's go with Just American, how is that?
So once you have all the information filled out, all the important info that we need to know about your video, let's hit the Next button and we'll be brought to this page where it says, Choose the File, and remember I saved mine on the desktop, PB&J UGC video, there it is, I'll select it, I hit Choose and then I finally end everything by hitting the Upload File button. You'll see it's in progress, it's rolling, and that's it, just give it a few minutes to upload that file depending on how big the file size is, you know, again, up to 150 megs, it might take a few minutes. But when it's done you'll see the word Success written in the window here, and just give it a few hours, we have a process where we screen the videos, make sure it's appropriate and it is, definitely fits our guideline, it's a how-to instructional video, and it should be up in a matter of hours on the site after you do this.
So that's how you create, shoot, edit, and finally upload the perfect user-generated video to our website monkeysee.
com. Thanks for watching.
