Pie Lafferty: Hi! I am Pie Lafferty, Lafferty Stables from Pagosa Springs Colorado in the beautiful San Juan Mountains. Today, I am going to show you the basics of one of the most exhilarating equine sports in the world; Show Jumping. I will show you, what equipment you'll need, how to walk the course, the obstacles you jump, how to approach the jumps, how the scoring works and what it takes to ride it at the highest levels.

Of course, you are going to need a good horse trained to jump, you need proper attire, proper equipment, but we are going to discuss that more in clip 2. But first, let's realize that you need to be sufficient at riding at the walk, the trot, the canter. You'll need to find a confident trainer that can show you how to approach the fences in a safe manner. So, go out, have fun, it's a great sport, but be safe while you're doing it. First, a little bit about me and my experience. I've been teaching in riding horses and training and coaching for 40 years. I started in Kansas City with my uncle and his horse business. We did polo, hunting, show jumping and pony club. We got successes all through those years and then I moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where I ran a competitive 100 jumper barn for 20 years, then moved here with my husband and we now raise Holsteiner for Show Jumping. Hopefully, they will be at the pinnacle of their careers in the World Cup and the Olympics and we also teach lessons and train other people to come along to the Horse shows too. I am qualified to teach equitation, hunters and jumpers and also qualified to teach your horse to do the same disciplines. But we will discuss proper attire, proper equipment in clip two.
