Host: How much time does caring for a dog require?

Michelle Otis: Again, it depends on what type of dog you adopt. If you adopt a puppy, they are going to require a lot more time out of your daily schedule. Puppies generally need you to take them out for health training purposes at least every three to four hours, four hours at the max. So you really are looking at investing a lot more time in a puppy than you would an adult dog who may have already had some training. But the most important thing to keep in mind is to not put a time limitation on it because when you transition a new dog into new home, it is always going to take a lot more time than you expect.
