Host: Where do most of the animals come from that are in the care of a shelter. Michelle Otis: Again, that depends on the shelter that you are looking at. Some of the shelters take in stray animals and perform animal control function, so most of their animals maybe strayed. Most shelters will take owner surrenders as well so you have a mix of strays, owner surrenders, sometimes if a shelter also practices humane or does humane law enforcement in their community, you might have animals that were impounded for cruelty cases. So I think that for the most part, the majority of the animals in a shelter environment are going to be strays, owner surrenders or impounded for some kind of legal reason.
