Dick Stohr is That Yo-Yo Guy! He has been a full time yo-yo professional since 1997. He does the Spintastics all day teaching program Yo-Yo Fun & Science of Spin in elementary schools as well as libraries in the summer time in the Mid-Atlantic states. He also performs at parties, festivals, scout meetings, Trade Shows and other fun events. He has set six yo-yo World Records and has been a yo-yo contest judge at World, National, Regional, State and local contests since 1999. He started playing with yo-yos in elementary school in the 1950's. During High School and College it was not cool so he did not play much. Following a career in the US Navy and Navy Reserve plus positions of increasing responsibility in the civilian business world he quit his day job to become That Yo-Yo Guy. Any day that he gets to play with his yo-yos and other peoples kids must be a good day. Teaching the beginners has become his passion. He believes that kids are from 6 to 106 years old and all kids can have fun with a yo-yo if they get a good start and do not have to unlearn bad habits.

Hi! I am Dick Stohr, also known as That Yo-Yo Guy. What weve covered so far is how to get the string on the yo-yo and your finger; how to do the basic throws in yo-yoing, the Power Throw and the Forward Pass.

Now we're going to show some tricks that do not require a sleeping yo-yo. Remember when I did the yo-yo Power Throw, it came right back to my hand; if I don't catch it and I make it go back and forth over my hand, this trick is called Planet Hop. So you throw the yo-yo down smoothly; when it gets to your hand, don't catch it, just make it go over the top and keep it going.

When we did the Forward Pass, we caught the yo-yo. If you don't catch the yo-yo, you flick your wrist in a C motion, where you throw it and then instead of catching it, you make it go around your hand and go back out, that's called loop to loop -- and when you are practicing loops by the way this is probably one of the hardest tricks to master. You do the yo-yo Forward Pass and instead of catching it, you make it go out again; you do one loop; practice one loop until you can do one loop consistently, and you try and do two loops. The idea is that you practice good loops. If you mess up, stop, start over. So if you do one Forward Pass, one loop, do one loop consistently and try two loops; and when you are down to where you can do two loops consistently, then you try and do three. So when you are doing multiple loops consistently, then you can just keep on going on the yo-yo.

That's one of the fun things in yo-yoing is to just keep the yo-yo going, doing the tricks you want it to do. Remember, this yo-yo does not sleep; does not stay at the end of the string, because it has those two loops around the axle. So, these are non-sleeping yo-yo tricks.

What we're going to cover next is the sleeping tricks. We will take that second loop off, and we will start learning the yo-yo sleeping tricks.
