Before AdmissionsConsultants was formed, David Petersam, the company's founder, successfully guided several friends and acquaintances through the turbulent admissions process that encircles the nation's elite business schools. After witnessing how successfully his admissions strategies worked for these these individuals – and being told by these same applicants that he should start an MBA admissions consultancy – AdmissionsConsultants was formed.

Host: What is involved in applying to a business school?
David Petersam: We advice people to begin by first of all ensuring that they really do want an MBA and that they are going to need an MBA to advance their degree. Sometimes, we talk with applicants and what they really need is a CFA, a CFP, a Masters of Public Policy and they don't even need an MBA. Then it said, if they do decide that they need the MBA degree to advance their career, they need to take the GMAT.

Until they take the GMAT, we really don't know exactly were they are going to be competitive. Their GMAT combined with the transcript it's going to help us determine what level of academic qualifications hurdle they are going to clear. Will they would be competitive at the top 50 schools. Will they would be competitive at the top 20 or perhaps they would be competitive at even the top five business schools. Once we have that baseline then we can really help them ensure they have the right extracurricular activities, review their career progression, help them with their essays and the letters of reference and let's put together the absolute best package to optimize their chances.
