Byron Bradley: Hi! My name is Byron. I am an ACA Canoe Instructor. We are here on the Potomac river and today we are going to talk about solo canoe. I will start off by showing you which you need to get out on the river and then we will talk about the various strokes and the safety you may need to have a safe canoeing trip. As we talk about solo canoe, of course, we are going to talk about the boat itself, the paddle, we are going to go over strokes and techniques on maneuvering the canoe around so that you can get out and have a good time.
Of course, you have to have a canoe, a paddle, personal floatation device which we called a PFD, pre-safety for solo canoeing number one, you should always canoe with the partner but today we are just going to go over paddling strokes and maneuvering. Of course, you should always paddle with the personal floatation device on, this is our PFD and we will be going over the rest of the safety for paddling as we go along in the video.
I started canoeing when I was 14, took my Canoe Instructor Certification when I was about 20 years ago here on the Potomac river. So let's get started with solo canoeing.
