Host: What are the basic recommendations to help care for a sick child at home?
Robin Vick: It may come as a surprise to some families, but there are very simple basic recommendation that I feel should be offered to parents as they are preparing for an eventual illness that the child may experience and basically those recommendations come down to just being prepared in a little bit later in our conversation, I am going to be telling you about some basic preparations that family should have as they just begin to anticipate any future illnesses. So preparation is important and also the knowledge that any kind of illness is going to be usually an unexpected situation and it's likely to cause some stress in families; slightly going to change routines and make additional demands on parents and also on may be other siblings in the family and to know ahead of time that those things are going to happen and to try to be as calm as possible, very few things that children are going to be experiencing in their lives are going to be true emergencies. We will talk later about what some of those emergencies might be but basically illness management; if any kind of illness is going to be founded in knowledge and the ability of the family to make some informed decisions about how to take care of that specific type of illness.
