Host: How will communication with my health care team help manage my child's illness?
Robin Vick: Throughout our conversation, I have been talking about how communication can really service the foundation for managing a child's illness and we have talked already about how the understanding of the child in a situation of wellness is the basis of managing future unexpected events. That ongoing conversation and communication will allow the health care providers to know about the child, how he or she may respond to a certain type of illness, what the management plans might have to be for that unique child's physiologic disposition or the age of the child greatly impacts often times, the type of interventions that are necessary.
It will enable the family to be assured of, what I would to call just already a firm understanding especially in a situation where a call might come in the middle of night and illness is never a planned thing. So, that ongoing communication will establish an understanding of the child, when the family does have to make that call.
