Vic Morawski: Hi, I am Vic and today we're introducing you to the game of Backgammon. What we would like to talk about next is the simplest game plan to execute the running game. Okay what I want to illustrate here is kind of your end goal in a running game.

Now, not every end situation in a running is going to look exactly this way but generally what you're trying to do is get all of your checkers, here blue did have a checker, final checker on this point and rolled a number -- rolled a 6-1, it was able to get it in. This is by the way an optimal bear off position with your checkers spread out. Note here that blue has advanced much further than white. This is what you want to achieve in a running game. A situation where, as we say in Backgammon contact has been broken off. Note, in this situation no one is able to hit anyone else and blue is in blue's home board, ready to bear off with a significant lead in the race around the board.

The only way white wins this is if blue rolls extremely poorly and white rolls unusually well. Otherwise blue should win this game. Next, we will talk about the kinds of opening rolls that might get you into a running game as your game plan.
