Charlie Anderson: Hi, I am Charlie Anderson, Metal Gear Solid 4 expert. The first thing we are going to go over is the Heads Up Display, otherwise known as the HUD. We are going to show you where everything is on the screen, how to work your Map, and how to work the proximity ring that's around Snake, and how to use that effectively. So with that, let's get into the game.
So all you have to do is start up the game. Now from here, you will see Snake standing at a graveyard, at the grave of the Boss. All you have got to do from here is hit Start, and you see a couple of Menu options. You have got New Game, Load Game, Mission Briefing, Options, Photo Album, Virtual Range, Metal Gear Online, which we will be covering later, and Extras. So what you want to do is go to New Game; I like to play it on the wide screen. Then from here there is a bunch of different stuff you can do, and just the way I told it. Alright, so here we have Snake in his environment. You notice a couple of things as soon as you start off. In the lower right hand part of your screen is your weapons, and if you hold R2, you can see all this stuff comes up; your stun Knife, and all the fun stuff. On the lower left is your Items, and if you hold L2, you can go through and scroll through your available items. In the upper left you will see old Snake with a Health Bar, and then four bars underneath; that is your sight bar, what that means is when that gets lower, your ability to aim will decrease, and how that decreases is also by stress, which hopefully you will see come up soon. You notice this ring around snake as well; there is a small bump in it as well. This is your proximity center. This will tell you who is around snake, and the bumps get higher in peaks, depending on how close these enemies are. If you also notice on the upper right, is an arrow pointing with a dot; the dot is your goal for the level, and also there is a camouflage Level. You notice that the Camouflage Level changes as I move around and also if I am static in here, at 16% out in the sun, as opposed to being at 26% in the shade. You can also go up against walls to change that, but we will cover that later on.
Also, in here is, if you hit Start, it comes up with your Menu. And your Menu shows you your Map with your goal highlighted and the direction you should go. This will also tell you, if you see in the lower right hand part of your screen, you have Snake, Blocked Path, Destination, the Wind Direction, and all that fun stuff. Alright, so now we have the Solid Eye; if you notice down the lower left hand side of your screen, you have Solid Eye equipped. Hold L2, it will bring up, you know, options that you can do. So we will try Night Vision Mode. You hit the Square to bring up Night Vision Mode and release L2. You notice that there are little things here on the screen that become highlighted, inter activity. So we can go up to this guy, hit Triangle, and you will see a little Menu option come up to interact with. So if you notice that it says, now you press Triangle, and you can go up the ladder or go down the ladder. Another thing that this thing can do is it will show you where enemies are or players, so you can see easily at night where the thing is. Also, if you can see, it will have little displays about them so you can see if they are friendly or not. This also does Binoculars; your Triangle when you are working it, and you hit the D pad up to zoom in to see more info. So you can see, like this is militia, like how far away he is from you, what weapon he has, all that fun stuff. When you have the Solid Eye equipped on Normal, by hitting Circle, you will see that they are stuck on the ground which you can go and pick up, which you can run across, pick it up, and take. You can also -- anything that you interact with will show up.
Also, if you notice in the upper right part of your screen you have your Solid Eye equipped so it is a radar. The radar will react to sound, you notice now it's like jumping around right now. That's based off of sound waves, and also where the sound is emanating from will glow. If I have a silencer on my weapon, I won't make it sound when I shoot. So if I take the silencer off, I could make it, you know, I could make it sound. Alright, so that was the HUD. Next up is we are going to go through the controls for Metal Gear Solid 4. I will show you all the nifty little combinations that you can do, and how to control Snake in his environment around him.
