Host: What questions should I ask my doctor about treatment if I have already had a stroke?
Dr. Nina Solenski: One of the most important things is understanding why you had the stroke. If you were discharged for example, from the hospital and you really don't understand why you had your stroke, the first question is to ask the doctor, "Why did I have this?
" So you have a full understanding of why it occurred in the first place. Other things will be making sure that you understand how to take your medications. "Am I taking my medications correctly?
" The third thing would be understanding how am I going to prevent another event, another stroke in the future and what are the things that I can do in here now to prevent that. Is it more exercise? Is it stopping smoking? Is it taking a different medication for example? Maybe you heard about something. If you have any questions, bring them up to your doctor.
