Host: How do I determine whether stroke surgical treatments are worth the risk?

Dr. Nina Solenski: To determine the risks versus the benefit of any of these procedures whether it is surgical or not, there is a number of resources that you can use. One of it is to actually speak to a stroke neurologist themselves. The other would be to go to internet sites that are verifying, meaning, those that come for example, through the American Stroke Association, the National Stroke Association or through NIH or National Institute of Health. Those resources will give you accurate information. Any of those would work out well. The important thing is that you be an advocate and you do a little homework yourself so that you have some information before you agree to any kind of a procedure.
