Hi, this is Owen with Billabongs O.

C. Groms Surf Camp, headquartered at K-Coast Surf Shop, 35st Street in Ocean City, Maryland. Today we are learning how to surf, and now we are going to talk about safety. There are a couple of safety points in order to have safe, fun time out in the water. First of all, when carrying your board, we can usually drag the back end, the tail, through the sand holding the nose. The boards are usually heavy and coupled with the wind, will kind of spin around, and its easy to hold the board by the nose. This also makes it easier walking out into the water before we lie down in a prone position and begin paddling out into the lineup. When we are moving out into the water, it is important that we dont stand directly behind someone with a surf board or in front of some one who is trying to ride in to you. Make sure you find an open lane to move out into the water. Lastly, when you are up and riding and you wipe out, which you inevitably do, when you come up from underneath the water, make sure you come up with your hands first, protecting your head. Feel on the top of the water for the board, and come up slowly. Try not to jump out of the water, because you might bunk your head on the board. Now that we know how to ride the wave and have a safe time doing so, you guys are ready to rock. Thank you, I hope you learnt something today, and make sure when you are learning to surf, access your certified surf instructor in your local area. Have fun, stay stoked.
