Roberto Tapia: Hi, my name is Roberto Tapia at Capoeira Sul da Bahia, Monitor Bucho, Washington DC. Today, I am going to show you how to play Capoeira and now I am going to show you how to do Esquiva Baixa Lateral. Esquiva Baixa Lateral is the first defense. Our one of the best and basic Capoeira defense.

First we will start with the Ginga that we saw before and later, we are going to stop and put your hands on the floor. Make sure that all your palm is on the floor, not only the fingers, to prevent breaking of fingers and all your palm is straight. Your elbow and put your head a little diagonal for passing down a kick.

That's Esquiva Baixa Lateral.

Ginga again slow. Make sure to breathe when you do the exercise, other side. In the other angle it's going to look like this. That's how to do a Esquiva Baixa Lateral. Now I am going to tell you how to do a meia-lua-de-frente. Meia-lua-de-frente is a kick. So first you start doing the Ginga, then you just stop at the Ginga forward your leg and your other leg is going to pass over your body and there you keep Ginga. Stop, forward your leg and the other leg is going to pass and let it put inside and keep Ginga. That's a meia lua.

In full speed, it's going to look like this. Make sure to maintain the balance when you do meia lua and make sure also to finish at the end of the Ginga, when you do this, pass a kick, make sure to finish back. It's very important to finish back and not here. So one more time we are going to do meia lua. Here, other side. That's how you do a meia lua de frente.

We are here with Emma Goldberg. Now we are going to tell you how to do meia-lua-de-frente and Esquiva Baixa Lateral in partners. So at first we start with Ginga. I want to kick first. She is going to do the defense. Other side, it will be like this. That's how you do Esquiva Baixa Lateral and meia lua de frente.

Next I will show you in Capoeira how to do a Queixada and also all other defense the name is Esquiva Media Alta.

I was thinking the same exact thing.

Meia Lua De Frente by Solanum at 04/27/11 01:43AM Flag

It's funny(?) how you emphasize how in meia lua the kicking leg should finish to the back of the ginga, not to the middle, yet when you do it with a pair neither finishes the kick to the back.
