Mary is a Studio Artist and Instructor at the Workhouse Art Center in Lorton VA.  Ms. Gallagher-Stout is a highly sought after decorative consultant and professional artist. Mary has studied in France, Italy, and Mexico to supplement her formal education.  Ms. Gallagher Stout holds a BA in Philosophy and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rosemont College in 1996.  She owns and operates a successful decorative painting company that services commercial facilites as well as private residences.  In 2008, she interned on HGTV's hit series Designed to Sell and in 2007 she was a Graduate Resident Artist of Virginia Commonweath University's Summer Studio Program.

Mary is currently focusing on her studio art and has been invited by esteemed curator and educator, Trudi Van Dyke, to be a part of an upcoming exhibit.  Ms. Gallagher Stout recently collaborated with award winning artist, Chelsea Owens, on her Wonder Womb Installation. Wonder Womb will be on exhibit at the Workhouse Art Center, Building W-16, for the entire month of March, 2009.

Mary Gallagher-Stout: Hi, I am Mary Gallagher-Stout and today we are going to be making a Paper Mache bowl and I would like to show you how to prepare your paste. Today we are going to be using the white glue, Elmer's glue. You pour it into your bowl. After you finish pouring it into the bowl, you are going to use a probably 4:1 ratio. So for a bottle of glue this big, you are going to use about a half a cup of water and you are just watering it down. So after you have poured it in just take a half a cup of water, pour it into your glue, stir it up. This is one way of making the paste. There are couple other alternative methods of making paste for Paper Mache. Some people use wallpaper paste which is a good thing to use because it has an antifungal agent in it, but it's not so good to use with children because tend to put glue and fingers in their mouth so that's not a good idea, but you can use it. There is another recipe for a wheat paste and or a regular paste. Wheat paste is traditionally used with political posters and stuff because it has an impenetrable bond when you put it on to a wall. So political people like to do that. So you just going to stir your glue until it's like a milky kind of like, I would say custard and then you are going to stir it up until it's a nice even consistency and that is how you prepare your glue for this Paper Mache bowl. Next we are going to adhere the newspaper on to our mold for our paper mache bowl.
