Hello! My name is Martha Hemmingway and I am going to be teaching some basic clogging. We are going to start with very, very basics of clogging. I am going to start you with what's called a double step and then a rock step. Double obviously means two, this means a brush forward and a brush back. You take the ball of your foot, which is obviously this part down here and you brush forward and brush it back, brush, brush, brush, brush. Now, thats a double, but thats definitely not the right timing. I am going to turn around now so you can follow me a little bit better. A true doubles in the clogging world is a brush, brush, brush, brush, and one and two. Now, we are going to put a step to it, a double step, double step, other foot, double step, double step, double step. Now, we are doing to add to that what's called a rock step and its exactly what the name says, you are going to rock back on one foot and then step back to the other foot, so lets try that. After you do your double step on the left, double step, go on the ball of your right foot and step back down, and thats called a rock step, rock step, rock step.
So, lets put the two together, a double step, and a rock step, and double step, rock step, right foot, double step, rock step, double step, rock step, double step, rock step. What you just did then was called a basic. In the clogging world when anyone says to do a basic you do a double step, rock step. Now, we are going to move up a little further on that and do what's called a triple. Triple obviously three, we are talking three double steps and then do your rock step. Lets try it. For a triple, double step left, right, left, and one rock step, that was the triple on your left. Now, lets try it on your right, and double step, double step, double step, rock step, double step, double step, double step, rock step, double step, double step, double step, rock step.
Another clogging term that I like to do is called a chain rock step and this one is really good because it helps you work on your rock steps. So, we are going to try this one out, its called a chain rock step. What I want you to do is to double step on your left, and then do three rock steps in a row, rock step, rock step, rock step. Now, we are ready to do it on our right foot, one double step, three rock steps. This is called the chain rock step. Now, we are going to do it back and forth and this time I am going to give you the counts. Sometimes counts helps in learning the steps. Five, six, seven, eight and a one and two and three and four and a five and six and seven and eight and a one and two and three and four and a five and six and seven and eight, thats your chain rock step, we have one more and its called a fancy double. This one I think is easy to remember, because obviously double is two, if you think of fancy double, think of two and two and what I am talking about is starting with two double steps and then adding on two rock steps. Lets see what that looks like. Fancy double, do two double steps left and right, double step, double step. Now, do two rock steps in a row, rock step, rock step. Lets try that again and double step, double step, rock step, rock step, double step, double step, rock step, rock step, and a one and two and three and four and a five and six and seven and eight. So, you have learned very basics of clogging. You have learned the double step and the rock step. In our next segment you are going to learn how to do the stop. Happy clogging!
