Hula dance experts Kanekia and Makanani demonstrate how to dance to "Little Brown Gal," a traditional Hula Dance song including the proper posture.
Transcripts
Kanekia: Aloha, my name is Kanekia, this is Makanani and we are here to teach you how to Hula to 'Little Brown Gal'. First we will begin with the basic Hula posture. To begin in our basic Hula posture Makanani is going to face the side so that she can show you that you shoulder should be back. They should be balanced over your hips and your hips are certainly back as well, you are balanced over the back of your heels, your feet are apart slightly right underneath your hips and your feet are angled out at a 45 degree angle. Next, this is the most important part, you want to bend your knees as far as you can bend them and this will allow you to have movement to sway your hips like the motion of the ocean and you sway your hips throughout the Hawaiian dance, good.
Now that we have learned the basic Hula posture we are ready to learn the basic step called the Kaholo.
