How to Style Curly Hair

Annie Hathorn: Hi, my name is Annie Hathorn and I am a hair stylist at Tangerine Dream Beauty Bar in Great Falls, Virginia. Our video today is on how to style curly hair. This is our model Kelly. Today we will be showing you how to shampoo and condition curly hair, how to apply product, how to diffuse it with a blow dryer, how to give it a more polished look with a curling iron and the third option is just a simple way of pinning up the hair even just half way up for a nice finished look. All these ways show the versatility of curly hair and there are a lot of options when styling curly hair.

The tools that you will need for this video are for four bobby pins, you want them the color that matches the hair, a wide-tooth comb that we will use while conditioner is in the hair, a one inch barrel curling iron, it doesn't have to be of this type, it can be one with the spring and a prong, and then a blow dryer with a diffuser attachment. The product we are using today are shampoo and conditioner for curly hair and then the styling products we are using a mousse as well as the gel and then a Non-Aerosol Hair Spray and an Aerosol hair spray.

Some safety issues that you might want to be aware of is the diffuser air can get very hot. You want to keep it a little bit away from this scalp so as not to burn your scalp. The other safety issue you want to be aware of is when you are using the curling iron, the technique that we use where you hold the iron and wrap the hair around the iron, you want to be very careful not to burn your fingers or your face, because you will be holding it close to your face. So just be very aware to keep it away from your face and to keep your fingers away from the rod.
