Applying Foundation, Concealer, and Powder

James Cornwell: Hey there! I am James Cornwell and I am here at PRatPartners in Mazza Gallerie. Today, I am going to show you how to create a natural daytime look that will transition into the evening. We are going to start with foundation, concealer, and powder. That would definitely get you going. Alright, so the first thing we are going to do is clip the hair out of the face. That would definitely make it a lot easier to create this look. Then what you need to do is make sure that the skin is properly prepped. Generally, you would like to start with exfoliation or a face wash which our model has already done. Then you can take and use a cleansing cloth that will help remove any excess of oils from the face, making sure you get around the eyes and definitely around the lip lines. Once you've created that then it is time for moisturizer. Make sure you choose a moisturizer that is proper for your skin. If you have oily skin, you want to choose a moisturizer that is oil-free. And if you have normal to dry skin, something that is hydrating. I specially like to focus around the eye area. That eye area tends to get a little dry and it is great for helping smooth out the concealer and foundation when you do your application.

And if you notice, I am applying with a brush. Most people at home tend to do it with fingers. I just feel like the brush gives me as an artist the best application. Even do the eyelid. The eyelid definitely shouldn't be left out of this process. Once you have completed that then you can move to either foundation or a concealer. I tend to do a foundation first because sometimes you don't always have to put on concealer. The foundation I am using today is All Natural Mineral and it tends to be the trend now; people want to be as natural as they can for their skin and this actually help hydrate and give the great lasting finish all day along. Always make sure when you are applying that your following the natural texture of the skin. Especially underneath the eyes, you don't want to pull or crease the skin under there. You want to make sure that you are working from the outside end and do some dabbing, especially if you are using your finger or a sponge. Most of the mistakes that people make with foundation, they always apply too much to start with. I always just put a little bit on in the areas I need to work and then blend it until I have to add more or most of the time, it ends up being just enough to get a good coverage. If at any one point you feel like you have applied too much foundation, the best thing to do is just take your fingers or a low sponge and smooth it out across the skin. I even use the foundation on the eyelids. It tends to give you a better overall even coverage and makes the skin tone look the same. Clients love a brush because it feels really good. Does it feel good on your skin? It's often. Let me put on the sleeve that is for sure. So once that's finished there, I tend to then look and see any areas I need to cover. Sometimes this are dark circles under the eyes, it could be blemishes or could be age spot or moles or even just natural occurring freckles and brown spots. That is when you go on with your concealer to get the right consistency. So now with the concealer just cover any areas you feel that need extra coverage. Now I tend to blend with my finger a little bit on this part. Open up and look that. And now, what we will do is just finish with the translucent finishing powder. Proper application for this is not to just dust it on the face. You want to work your big powder brush in a circular motion on the skin to set the foundation and that will make your foundation last all day long. And now that we are finishing up our foundation stage, we are going to move into the next segment which will be focusing on our eyes.
