Tomas Sbertoli: I am Tomas Sbertoli. We are here at Wintergreen Resort in Virginia and I am teaching you how to snowboard. The next piece that we are going to learn is how to do a hill side glide. Once you are up the hill and turn around, it's really important to make sure that your bindings are strapped in on that back foot. Even though your foot is not in there, so that they stay out of the way. Stand up, get comfortable, just place that back foot snugly up against the back binding, and then just roll the board over gently, and stay in a comfortable balanced athletic stance, and roll down the hill real slow and soft. When you feel like you are uncomfortable, you can just step back foot off the board, but the idea is to get used to rolling that board on to its back edge and being able to stop and go.

Nice thing about working in an open area like this is that you can look down and see what's going on without having to worry about people around you. Once you get out on the hill, the idea is to keep your eyes looking down the hill and just feel that board flattening and rolling on to the hillside edge. Getting used to glide and stop. The next thing we will work on is just a straight running glide with the back foot out, so that you get a little feel for that position as well.
