David Swanson: Hi I am David Swanson with the World's Greatest Hobby Program and today we are showing you how to get started in model railroading. At our previous clips we have showed you how to select a train set. Now when you bring your train set home, what do you do with it? Most people will first set it up on a floor or on a table and get started running their trains that way, may be even set it up around the Christmas tree. But really you want to get it of the floor and start a real model railroad and the best way to do that is with a sheet of ply wood. You can build your model railroad on a 4/8 sheet of ply wood simply and easily.

The advantage of being of the floor is your trains won't get run over by the dog which is a big advantage. It also allows you to permanently connect your wires and start to engage in things like scenery and making your model railroad more of its own real world. In our next segment we are going to show you some of the resources that are available to help you in building your model railroad and making it your hobby of a lifetime.
