Philip Bogenberger: It is holiday time and you are going to be spending this time with family and friends and neighbors and we encourage you during this time most important is to be safe. And the best way to do that is to use a designated driver if you are going to be drinking. Do not encourage underage drinking. You want to have a designated bartender whenever possible whether its yourself or a person that you trust. And if you can't have a designated bartender, have somebody to monitor the area you know where alcohol is going to be. Especially, so that people underage aren't encouraged to come and drink alcohol. It is certainly important to have things other than alcohol, water, coffee, plenty of juices, sodas if you prefer and one thing that we kind of recommend is something fun to do is to have mocktails. Mocktails or cocktails just without the alcohol. They are enjoyable for people who kind of feel like they are still a part of the party and still having kind of the same drink, they are just not taking in the alcohol. Also, let me say that foods are definitely important. Eating foods that are high in proteins, meats and cheeses will absorb the alcohol and make the blood stream a lot quicker. Food should always be served longer than the alcohols are available to guests; thats kind of a key. A lot of people of kind of cut off food service and then keep the alcohol flowing but we recommend to keep the food come in. You are being a responsible host and in the long run people will thank you for that. Basically, designated drivers and taxi cabs safeguards and ABC strongly encourages that you cannot let anybody drink and drive from your party. Find them a designated driver; offer them a place to stand and most important thing is that people are responsible until they get home safe. With a little bit of planning and attention to responsibility, you can make your party enjoyable and safe.
