To build a fire in the fireplace, you need a few basic tools. You need a good fireplace tool set. You need a fireplace grate. You need a good fireplace screen or glass doors. You also will need newspaper to start the wood on fire or some commercial fire starters that you can buy at the grocery store. Before we begin, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a Certified Chimney Sweep and been cleaning and restoring chimneys for the last 28 years. I am the owner of Sugarloaf Chimney Restoration and working in Washington D.

Advice to make a good Fire and wood lat longer. by mreda14 at 01/24/10 03:30AM Flag
1-Be sure the firewood is dry. It takes heat to convert water into vapor. The heat is wasted to convert water into steam. 2-Be sure you have installed a butterfly valve (Dumper) so that the heat will not go out to the chimney but in your room. 3-Once the fire becomes red hot; you want most of the heat to come from conversion of CO2 into CO. This process gives too much heat and makes the wood last longer. Keep the Butterfly valve almost close
