Pamela Ferrell: Hi, I am Pamela Ferrell with Cornrows & Co. and today, I am showing you how to do a twist on natural hair. In this segment, I am going to show you how to blow dry natural textured hair.

First, you definitely have to use a professional blow dryer with a comb nozzle attachment. This right here, this is the trick. You want one that's made of hard rubber. There are some out there that are plastic and they don't have the same consistency of heat and also, they don't last as long. One of these will last you a good 10-15 years.

So first, the reason we sectioned this hair style out is so that it would be easy to work through the complete head and untwist each section that we are going to blow dry. First, for safety you want to always make sure that the heat or the air is not directed to the scalp because obviously, that's going to burn the scalp. So always make sure whatever section you are drying, the air is either up, out, away from the scalp. So we will start here and you saw how easy that was to untwist that section. I am going to use my clip to just, kind of, move the shorter hair out of place.

When you get ready to blow dry, stretch the hair. That's going to help you with the blow drying process. Then you take that blow dryer and remember to direct the heat away from the scalp. You are going to work at the ends first, pulling the blow dryer through and then gradually blow dry down to the hair closest to the scalp. As you notice, I am moving though the hair pretty quickly because we don't want to leave that heat on the hair for a long period of time. Pull it through, ends first just like the combing, blow dry the ends and then work your way down to the roots. Keep that air directed away from the scalp, so that you don't burn it.

How about that? Quick and what we did is we blew dried the hair just to make it where it's nice and easy to comb. We are not necessarily straightening the hair, we just want to loosen up the curl. So that when you part through in sections, your sections will be uniform and your twist will be consistent.

When I talked earlier about using excessive heat, generally excessive heat means pressing the hair or using hot curling ions on the hair everyday or every morning. What that does is that disturbs the natural texture in the hair and straightens it. Then eventually, your hair will have two textures. You might have straight ends and you will have curly roots, which doesn't work well if you are trying to do a twist style or individual twist.

So now we have nice, luscious, natural textured hair. I call it nice and organic. As you see, I can pull my fingers through it. We are ready to get ready to section and twist.
