Jay Golden: Hi! I am PGA member, Jay Golden and the purpose of this series is to teach parents how to get their children to enjoy golf, the game of a lifetime. This segment is going to be on fun drills to help them improve their game. The first one is chipping into a basket.

As you can see, we have a basket turned sideways. As they improve, you can hold the basket laying straight on the ground. But the idea is to chip balls into the basket, chip it in the basket. Hit, miss, short, left, right. Its a fun drill. Chip it in the basket, chip it in the basket. If they practice chipping in the basket, they will improve their short game.

Parents, the next drill is what I call hit a bucket of putts. Instead of your child hitting one ball and going to get it and putting, one ball, one ball, if you could line up ten or twenty balls and encourage them without taking hardly any time at all, putt, hit, hit, hit, putt, putt, putt, they will develop a solidness of hit rhythm, timing and tempo. If they hit a bucket of putts, they are going to improve their putting. Hit the target and win the prize. Hit the target and win a prize. Come one, come all. If you can give a prize in a carnival, kind of, an atmosphere or a setting, and have a little prize, have a little toy, have a little something. If they hit a good shot, they get it. May be they will get a point. When they get 10 points, they are going to get a prize. Its good to reinforce good shots with prizes. Try it. Right here, we giving away a trophy.

Parents, this is called chip them quick. Kids love to hit balls quickly and there is a big advantage to that. It becomes natural. Here we have chipping. We have lined up balls, chip them quick. Chip, chip, chip, it brings out the naturalness which is what you really want to do in golf. Instead of thinking of five things, we want natural swings. Our next segment is on putting.
