Transcripts
Brad Parker: Hi! I am Brad Parker with MyFlorist in McLean, Virginia. We are talking about flowers on Mother's Day. In this particular clip, we are going to discuss what are appropriate designs for Mother's Day. Well, what is appropriate? The answer is almost anything. The universe of floral design is infinite. Equally so, the variety and types of mothers are equally diverse and infinite. So there is no one way is what I am trying to say.
With that said and with more than 20 years of experience of designing and helping people choose flowers for Mother's Day, there are a few things that I can say that might help set you in the right direction. If the person that you want to send flowers to is a traditional person, maybe lives in the country, then we often find that we will design an arrangement in a basket, such as this. You see here in this arrangement typical Mother's Day colors, pinks and whites and pastels and it's designed in a basket. This goes, again it's a traditional design. It's something that lends itself more to a country setting. Whereas, if you take a look at this arrangement which you will more typically find in a more contemporary setting, something we do much more of today than we did 20 years ago. So in an urban environment or suburban environment, more modern type individual, you might prefer to have something designed in a vase. You may have someone, be it your mother, your mother-in-law, the mother of your children, who likes things that are very different and may have a much more exotic personality. Then you might try an arrangement like this, where you have flowers from the tropics. It's an entirely different look. It evokes different feelings and emotions. So in this process, perhaps, you are starting to realize that there are many options. What you need to do is look at some of the options, work with your professional florist to see what your choices are. Then you have to visualize and reach out towards the person you want receive the flowers and say, Wow! What's a good match here. Flowers are a wonderful medium for expressing your emotions and feelings and you are looking for a match in right kind with the recipient. There are many options. Here are a few more. This is something that's also very popular, it's designed in a dish garden. What you have here is an assortment of plants. It's not just one type of plant, it's several plants are put together to make a design. They have different colors and textures and shapes to them. Then what we have done is we have enhanced it with some fresh cut blooms that we have inserted into the design. I like that a lot personally. One, you have more than one type of plant. Two, with the fresh cut blooms, you have that vivid burst of color which enhances the effect for the recipient. Finally, I think it's appropriate to talk about roses. Roses are something that for centuries have been representative of love, of appreciation, of respect, of gratitude. You are never going to go wrong with giving a dozen long stem roses. There are many different colors that you can give. I picked out here one of my favorite, it's a hot pink color. The color is vivid and bright and passionate, if you will. Maybe you know that your recipient's favorite color is yellow, then send yellow roses. If you are not sure, you never go wrong with a dozen red roses.
So these are just some of the options that you may want to consider. There are many, many different ways to go. What you want to do is look at your choices and then reach out with your own feelings towards the person you want to receive them and make a choice.
So I hope this discussion has been helpful to you. In our next series, we are going to discuss what is the appropriate delivery date for your Mother's Day flowers.
