Pirooz Sarshar: Hi! I am Pirooz Sarshar, co-founder of the Grooming Lounge. Today, I am teaching you the basics of men's skincare.

In this segment, I am going to teach about moisturizers. Now you are probably wondering what moisturizing or what moisturizers are and no moisturizers are not for girls and they are not just for your mom. Everybody should hydrate and moisturize their face. Now what are moisturizers?

They are usually lotions, gels or liquids that help hydrate, protect the skin from environmental toxins and improve the skin tone and texture while creating a smooth surface right on your face. It's especially important to use moisturizers in the winter time because the temperatures are cold outside and the air is dry inside. So I don't know if you have experienced this, in the winter time when it's really cold, but when you come inside in that fake dry air, your skin tends to dry. So it's essential to use a moisturizer to keep your skin from flaking and to keep your face from itching. Okay, it's also important to use moisturizers, believe it or not in the summer time because in the summer you are sweating, you are dehydrated that causes your skin to become oilier. So you assume that you shouldn't use a moisturizer. But if you use moisturizers in the summer time, it will balance your skin and it will prevent your skin from becoming even more oilier. Moisturizers, most important job is to restore the skin's natural balance, okay. Now, moisturizers work differently for every skin type. Let's say you have skin that's acne prone. Therefore, you would use a moisturizer that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide or ingredients that help battle acne. Let's say you have really dry, sensitive skin or age skin. Well, if you have dry sensitive skin you would use a moisturizer that's more gentle. If you have age skin and you are older in age, you would use a moisturizer with more antioxidants in it. Today, the moisturizer I am going to use is an oil-free moisturizer and an oil-free moisturizer is what I recommend for combination skin what most of us guys have, alright and it's really simple. You don't need very much and you don't want to go too crazy with it and just put it all over the place. A good moisturizer is usually very concentrated in terms of their ingredients. So watch, I am going to put about let's say about a dime size, right in my hands. I am going to work it through and I am going to come and I am going to start with our t-zone which is my forehead and my nose and I am going to work it all the way through, okay. Now if I need a little bit more, I can always pump out another dime size just like this. And I am going to work it in the neck area. This 02:48 smooth surface, this hydrates my skin and sometimes if you use a little too much moisturizer, you will notice that it looks like you have coated your face with milk. But your skin is so thirsty, so parch that it will absorb all this moisturizer. It's like water for the skin. So yes, it's important to use moisturizer each and everyday and everyone should use a moisturizer and no it's not just for girls.

In the next segment, I am going to teach you about sunscreen.
