Vince Clingenpeel: I m Vince Clingenpeel, Home Inspector. We re talking about things you should expect from your home inspection. We re at the electric meter now. To follow me up this wire one of the things we re looking for is the connection to the house, the condition of the wires and a drip loop is an important item. That s the way the wires curl down and allows the water to drip off without getting to the connection. Down below the meter from this point belongs to the homeowner. From this point up belong to the power company. I m noting the service entrance cable is a bit frayed, although it s serviceable, but that should be noted. Now let s take a look at the grading and the general condition to the exterior and the grounds.

One of the things, we always want to check is the grounds and the exterior. You notice that the steps are in fine condition, the sidewalk is in good shape. We re also very concerned with grading. Looking at the down spouts and the fall and how the water gets away from the house. An interesting thing about gutters, even though installed by the roofer is actually part of the foundation, that s why it s such an important item. The driveway appears to be fairly new, a very good thing. Now, let s go inside. We re going to start in the kitchen.
