Mary Gallagher-Stout: Hi! I am Mary Gallagher-Stout and today we are making a traditional star piata. I have get all of the elements to create our piata are dry and we are ready to form it into a star, so I am going to show you that now. You are just going to take your dry balloon and your dry points. I am going to swish it out and watch how easy it is, with it comes right off and then you can wash off your bottle and have a tasty drink.

So what you are going to do is you are going to take the points and think about it as a star. So you are going to put them on with masking tapes, I am going to start this way. And I cut off a piece of masking tape and what's really cool is if you don't want to do a star, you can make an animal, make this be ears, you can make all sorts of shapes, you can put as many points as you want on to the star. I like five or six, I think that makes it interesting especially when the streamers are coming off then it looks really pretty when they spin around. So you are going to want to repeat the process with each of the points.

Now we have all the points attached to our surface and so now we have our star shape. Now what we need to do is paper-mache two layers to cover up the tape and to make it a very secure, a very smooth surface and just like before, in terms of making sure that it's completely dry before you do your next application and we are going to do each of the points all the way around, I am going to let it dry and then it's decoration time.

Coming up next, it's time to decorate our paper-mache Mexican Piata.
