Deborah Joy Block: Hi! I am Deborah Joy Block with the Wedding Dance Specialists and I am here today to help you prepare for your first dance at your wedding. Now we are going to cover the basic step forward in the Foxtrot.
The basic step should incorporate all the techniques we have discussed in the earlier segments including proper footwork, proper tracking, and good posture. So your feet are together when you start, and you are going to step forward, forward, side together, if you are the gentleman, starting with your left foot. And when you take your side step, stroke with the inner sole of your foot. So you are leading with your heel, heel and then inner sole of your foot.
As the lady, you will start with your right foot and stroke your toe back, back and side together again leading with the inner sole of your foot for that side step and we incorporate the tempo, slow, slow, quick, quick, slow, slow, quick, quick.
We also want to add a component called body flight, where there is a slight rise and fall to your movement to give a more jazzy and natural look. Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow, slow, quick, quick.
So you are softening your knees on the offbeat. If we were to break it down with a tempo Boomch, Boomch, Boomch, Boomch, Boomch, Boomch. And now just take a look at this in real time with some music.
So we covered the basic walk in the Foxtrot and in our next segment we will be covering the Quarter Turn.
