Hi, I am Terry Dean from Terry Deans Dance Studio. Were teaching you the Foxtrot. Next part were going to teach is the promenade step. Promenade step is, where we both are going to need to change our position, our head position and walk forward at the same time. So, first Im going to demonstrate this with Cindy. So, whats going to happen is her head is going to turn to her right as mine turns to the left and were both going to take two forward walking steps. Walking steps are counted as slows, slow, slow and then the side steps are always going to be quick, quick and notice Cindys head comes back on the quick, quick. Well demonstrate that again. Her head turns to the right, mine turns to the left and we go; slow, slow, quick, quick, one more time, turn the head, slow, slow, quick, quick very good. Now, this seems pretty easy but the hardest part is the second step in the promenade. This is what we call contra body.

So, as you take the second step you have to cross your foot over without turning your body. So, it goes like this; slow, slow, youll feel pretty twisted at that particular point and then side together, thats when you come back. So, again weve got slow, slow, quick, quick, without turning your top and of course the lady has to do the same thing, Ill demonstrate with Cindy in the minute. She turns her head and she takes two walking steps, slow, slow and she has to make sure she keeps her back so it doesnt break down and then quick, quick. That way she has a nice, flat back when were turning because remember when were in dance position the frame or the back portion is very important so we turn our heads and maintain the back slow, slow, quick, quick. More demonstration, slow, slow, quick, quick, thats the promenade step, its one of the most popular steps in the foxtrot. Now what were going to do is were going to put the patterns together so that you can have an idea what they look like.
