Cool Magic Tricks - Forever Connected Paper
Magician John Given demonstrates the forever connected paper magic trick.
Astonishing John: Hi! I'm San Diego magician, Astonishing John, teaching you how to do some fun tricks with magic. This next trick is called the Forever Connected Paper, and let me show you how it's done. It's very simple. You take a strip of paper, and what I've done is I've taken a single sheet of paper and cut it into a few strips of the same size and tape them together. I'm going to tape them together one more time.
But, what I'm going to do is I'm going to put a little twist on the paper. That twist in the paper is the secret. Now, all I do -- and this is something you can do for anybody, I don't know, people really seem to like this. Line up the paper, give it a little snip and start cutting away.
I'll tell you, a lot of people think that magic is some old, ancient secrets, and sometimes it is, but sometimes magic is new, modern twist on science. Any type of developed science is magic to anybody looking at it, something for me to say, along cutting through this paper. I'm almost through, and when I am through, you're going to see how this forever connected paper works.
You can see, it's still connected. We have one huge piece of paper instead of one little piece of paper, although I cut it in half. What do you think would happen if I cut this in half again? I don't know, let's just see. You could do this again and again. I'm going to see how fast I can do it this time. Actually, depending on how sharp your knife is, and how wider the piece of paper you start with, you can do this a few times.
I know what you're thinking, you're thinking, well, it's going to be the same, maybe, it's going to be two pieces, three pieces. I have to cut it in half sometime, don't I? I'm just cutting in half. Let's see if you're right. I don't know what you're thinking is going to happen. I know it's going to happen, and I'm not going to give it away until I get to the end. We're almost there. I've cut through all this paper twice now, and remember, I start with just one sheet of paper. What do we have now? Let's see.
Oh my goodness! We have two loops connected here. What will happen if I cut it again? Will I have four? I don't know. This is called the forever connected piece of paper. You can have a lot of fun with this and kill more than a few minutes of time. I'm Astonishing John; stay tuned for the next trick, the Bent and Restored Fork. Stay tuned because that's going to be a good one.
