Terry is the owner and principal male dance instructor of Terry Dean’s Dance Studio, in Charlottesville, Virginia. He has been teaching ballroom dancing for 30 years and opened his own successful studio following a 19 year career with Arthur Murray Dance Studios. Terry has received accolades for his choreography and has been honored as Virginia State’s Top Studio and Top Teacher twice. Hi, I am Terry Dean from Terry Deans Dance Studio, today were doing the Rumba. Im going to put all the patterns together so you can get an idea of what they look like, and the character of the dance, so that when youre dancing the Rumba you get the proper look. Here we go.

The box step; slow, quick, quick, notice were rotating the box; slow, quick, quick, proper Cuban motion, fifth position rocks, back to the box, an open break and underarm turn, fifth position break, and back to the box. Constantly keeping our hips and body moving, but our upper frame kind of still, open break, keeping our body moving, fifth position breaks, and again, keeping the body moving, and always coming back to the box step. So, thats the basic Rumba. I hope you had a lot of fun learning it, we have had a lot of fun doing it. Just remember, that you have to learn all of the body actions because thats what makes Rumba really look good, and just call your local professional to help you out if you have any problem. Rumba is one of the most fun dances, and it is the one that you will use a lot because there is a lot of good Latin music out now.
