Transcripts
Terry Dean: Hi, I am Terry Dean from Terry Deans Dance Studio. Today we are working on the swing. The next part we are going to do is the basic step. We have showed you the basic components for the basic step. We are going to be using these components, the triple steps and the rocking steps, but we are going to be rotating this.
So, first I will show it you side to side, triple step, triple step, rock step. Now, whats going to happen actually is actually instead of going side to side, we are going to rotate. So, whats going to happen is the lady are going to come to my right step for her first triple, triple step, we are going to rotate for the second triple, triple step and then we are going to separate; rock step, so it goes together, triple step, around and apart. Triple step, triple step, rock step, triple step, triple step, rock step. The one thing youll notice is that when we are coming together, we are angling our triple step instead of side to side, we are doing in forwards, we are going towards each other; triple step. Now, we make the connection and we turn triple step and we separate, rock step, triple step, triple step, rock step. So, that is your basic step, rotating. Its not going to be done side to side. Its okay to do that to learn your basic rhythms, but we are actually going to be rotating the dance, triple step, triple step, rock step, triple step, triple step, rock step.
Okay, lets break it down real quick. Now, if I am going to rotate, the lady is over be here, I am the man, what I am going to do is I am going to take my triple step, remember the first two parts of it or like you have the hurt foot, triple, and then as I go across and change places with the lady, I am going to do it on the step, that I am going to do triple step in place, triple step, rock step. So, it goes, triple step, then in place, triple turn, rock step, triple together, triple turn, rock step; triple together, triple turn, rock step. So, it is very important now you breakdown the triple step from the first two steps of the triple and the third step of the triple. The third step of the triple is really where most of the action happens; triple step; triple step, alright, nothing much happens on the first two steps, triple, but on that third step I move, and thats what is happening. We are going to try and switch places, so she is over there and I am here and we are going to go, triple step and then we are going to do in place, triple step and then the rock; triple step, triple step, rock step.
So, thats our basic step turning. Next we are going to talk a little bit about the posture and the hold for the swing.
