Jimmy Nguyen: Hi, Jimmy Nguyen here, Founder of Easy Tennis. Today I am going to talk about how to improve your tennis game. In this segment, I want to take a look at the two-handed backhand. As you can see in the back court, Tiana(ph) is demonstrating the two-handed backhand. The first component for hitting a two-handed backhand is you want to make sure that you grip the racket properly and when we grip the racket we want to make sure that we don't grip it too tightly, keeping a firm grip, not too tight. You want to make sure your hands are slightly relaxed, so you don't want to grip it like you're about to hit a baseball bat, just grip a nice firm grip not too tight.
So we're going to first component of two-handed backhand, just like the one-handed backhand in the previous clip, you want to make sure again as the ball is approaching, we're going to that early racket preparation. But the keys for a two-handed backhand is to make sure as you do the preparation my knees are bent. I don't stand erect it's really critical, that I bend my knees to lower my center of gravity. Each tennis player has their center of gravity, it's within their abdominal muscles.
So again for the preparation my two hand goes back as the ball is approaching, I'm going to swing at the point of contact and believe it or not with the two-handed backhand, we can swing it a little slightly closer to our body unlike the one-handed backhand. Because with the one-handed backhand you have the luxury of swinging it further in front of your body where the two-handed backhand we can allow ourselves to hit a little bit closer to our body. So again we stand in ready position as the ball is approaching we're again into that early racket preparation, then we're going to swing to the point of contact and you notice when I'm swinging to the point of contact my body naturally rotates. And you notice my knees are bent, as I get to the point of contact I'm going to follow through around my shoulders, and you notice where my left elbows is going. My left elbow is pointing forward every time when I follow through. Knees bent and follow through, elbows pointing forward, low your center of gravity and follow through.
In the next segment, I'm going to teach you how to hit winning volleys with good form and proper preparation.
