Fishing - The Importance of Casting

Hi, I am Captain Steve Chaconas. Today, we are going to learn how to cast and the basic fundamentals involved in casting, but before we do we are going to try to find out why its so important to learn how to cast accurately. Bass and a lot of other fish live in certain areas and they live in these areas because thats where they can eat, thats where they can rest, thats also where they can reproduce, knowing this bass now hide around grass, wood, rocks, docks, lots of specific targets. Once you have learnt how to identify these, then you have to learn how to cast to them. What we use is basically rod and reel combinations. The rods, the length of the rods will determine how far we cast and also how accurate we are, longer rod, longer cast, shorter rod, more accurate cast. We are going to teach you today, how to identify these targets and basically how to get your lure to these targets. Bass are predator, so when you are figuring out where they are, figure out where you would be waiting for an easy meal to come by and then learn how to cast there. It is kind of like being a baseball pitcher, when you are a baseball pitcher, you pick the target. We might pick just over the plate, but a guy like Roger Clemens or another good baseball player is going to pick a very small specific target. The better you get at picking smaller targets, the better you are going to get at catching fish, because what you are going to do is be able to put your lure where that fish is and possibly where other fishermen havent been able to reach. So, identify a target keep it in your eyes, hand-eye coordination very important in casting. Pick that very, very small target, try to hit that target and you will become a better fisherman.
