Billy Garcia: Hi, I am Billy Garcia, Owner and Coach of Freeride Wakeboard School. Today I am going to help you get started and we are going to go over some of the wakeboard equipments. Let's go over to some of the equipments you are going to need to get you started in wakeboarding.

First off you are going to need a good wakeboard. So go to your local shop and get a good wakeboard like one of these. Then next thing is, you want to make sure you get the right sized board. Wakeboards are measured in centimeters. So if you are a large or a taller person, you want to get a wakeboard that's in 137-142cm range.

For a medium sized person or an average person, 132-137cm is probably good, and if you are a smaller person or a kid, 132cm and below. The next thing we are going to talk about is the boot. It's got to be a snug, tight fitting boot. You don't want to lose boot because that's going to cause injury. So make sure your boot is properly fitted and it's nice and snug.

Also on the back side of the board, it has fins. Some wakeboards come with molded fins and also a removable center fin. That's all by preference. So you try both out, move the center fin off and on, and see if you like the fin with or without it.

The next thing you are going to need is a Coast Guard Approved Vest. Make sure it's Coast Guard approved, so it floats you properly, you are not struggling in the water.

Last thing we are talking about is the Line and the Handle. You want to get a wakeboard specific Line and Handle like this. It's going to be a little bit thinner, but it's non-stretch. So don't use your dad's old slalom ski rope, make sure you get a good wakeboard Line. Next, I am going to show you how to get up on a wakeboard.
