Gale Tedhams: Hi! I am Gale Tedhams and I am with Owens Corning. I am here to show you how to insulate your attic and today we are going to use Blown-in Loose-fill. Now we have rented an AttiCat machine from our local Home Improvement Store and you can go to insulateandsave.

com to find out where you can rent them or you can have a contractor do this for work you. So, using the AttiCat machine is an easy weekend project and we are going to follow the steps that are listed on the machine and show you how to put it together and how to start Blown-in Loose-fill.

So, I will just put it together and then we close it up, making sure that it's locked. I am going to plug-in the power chord right here and Dwight is going to connect the hose, to screws in. Now, we have already measured the attic. We know the width and the length so, we know the total square feet. And on the bag of the AttiCat loose-fill, there is a table that will tell you how much material to buy to cover your square-foot of attic to the R-value that you desire.

Now, we have also attached rulers inside of the attic and so the level of the R-value that we are putting in can be maintained and be leveled across the attic. So the second step is cutting the bag in half. So you can see Dwight is taking a knife and he is cutting all the way around the bag and there is a cut line that is marked clearly on the bag right in the middle. And then he just sets it on a table or in this case on another package of insulation and just breaks it in half. Now, the next step is to load the bag into the machine and there is a special cutter on the machine that will automatically cut the package and the material will fall right into the machine. After the machine is loaded, check that everything is clear, you turn the machine on. If there a little bit of a delay about 8 seconds to clear the hose and then the paddle start turning and that starts processing the loose-fill through the machine, through the hose and into the attic. Now, we have already prepared the attic for the loose-fill to be blown in. We have Attic Rafter Vents attached to the roof deck so that we can maintain the soffit ventilation, all the way from the soffit vent to the Hip and Ridge of the roof. So, now we have talked about how to insulate your attic using Blown-in Loose-fill.
