Hi, I am Captain Steve Chaconas with National Bass Guide Service. Today, we are talking about fishing, and how to decide which lures to use. When you are first starting out, take a top-down approach. Starting this off, we are going to take a look at topwater lures. One of the easiest lures to use is the topwater popping lure. These lures pop across the water and spit and chug and actually have little rattles in them making little noises; that will bring the fish up to surface. This thing is a topwater lure, has two hooks and a feather on the end to kind of look like a bait fish. Very easy to use, it floats, it pops, you could see when the fish comes up and eats it. To advance a little further from here, we go to what we call a walking lure. These lures actually -- you have to impart a little bit of action to them to get them to walk across the surface. They are usually cigar-shaped lures, and by pulling on it and twitching it the bait will actually move from side-to-side when it is walking across the water. There are a lot of other top-water lures out there to choose from; you can also use what we call a buzz bait. This one actually is a metal bait and it skims across the surface of the water and churns up the water and gurgles on its way across, but you have to keep it on the surface by keeping your rod tip up and reeling it fast enough. Any of these lures are very easy to use because you actually see the fish bite. So, take that top-down approach when you are first learning how to fish and you will be a lot more successful. We will talk about other lures coming up next.
